Sagaing, November 25 – A global interfaith peace conference was held today at the Vatican in Rome, Italy, attended by His Holiness Pope Francis and Venerable Dr. Sobhita, Principal of the International Buddhist Education Center (IBEC), Myanmar.
This occasion marked a historic milestone for Venerable Dr. Sobhita. Meeting a world-renowned religious leader such as the Pope is both a rare honor and a recognition of the IBEC Principal’s tireless efforts to promote peace and harmony in Myanmar.
Venerable Dr. Sobhita arrived in Rome on November 24 to participate in the conference. During the discussions at the Vatican, global religious leaders, including Pope Francis, addressed critical issues affecting world peace: the Russia–Ukraine conflict, Middle East tensions, Indo-Pacific geopolitical rivalries, North Korea’s nuclear program, and the urgent pursuit of lasting peace in Myanmar.
Venerable Dr. Sobhita was specially invited by the Universal Peace Council to represent Myanmar’s Buddhist monastic community at this landmark event.
