IBEC Buddhist University was founded by Ven: Dr. Sobhita (Aggamahasaddhammajotikadhaja) in 2024. Beyond Buddhist scriptures, the university was founded with the aspiration to nurture graduates capable of living harmoniously within global society, valuing decades of Buddhist cultural heritage, demonstrating intercultural understanding, empathy, and adaptability. It aims to produce distinguished monastic and lay scholars who are innovative, responsible, and mission-driven, able to contribute meaningfully to national development. The university currently offers both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.

The M.A. (Master of Arts in Buddha Dhamma) program at this university is designated as a two-year course. Anyone who either holds a government-issued Dhammācariya certificate (a Dhamma teacher credential), or holds a degree from any recognized university—whether obtained locally or abroad—is eligible to enroll and receive instruction.
M.A. Degree Course is divided into two semesters. Instruction is delivered through evaluated assignments and end-of-course examinations.
In addition, visiting professors are invited to conduct teaching sessions, and research-paper reading seminars are organized. Research manuscripts are compiled under this framework and, upon successful submission and approval, the candidate is awarded (Master of Arts) M.A. degree from IBEC Buddhist University."

IBEC Buddhist University has also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with international universities—namely, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand, Nālandā University in India, and Lumbini Buddhist University in Nepal—to facilitate educational collaboration in academic and research activities.
